Two Charged With Arson For Vehicle Fire

Two out-of-state men are facing charges for a vehicle fire in the Town of Oakfield. Bond was set at $50,000 cash for 42-year-old Damon, Marshall (pictured above) of Rock Island, Illinois and $25,000 cash for 50-year-old Shane Gibbs of Marshfield, Missouri when they appeared this week in Fond du Lac County Court. According to the criminal complaints both men were in the area doing field work for a Connecticut company and were staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Fond du Lac. Gibbs told  Sheriff’s investigators Marshall asked him to purchase a small gas can, lighter and gasoline at a local gas station. They then drove out to W7504 Highbridge Road to a gravel parking lot of an electrical substation where Marshall’s company vehicle an SUV was parked. He said Marshall got out of the car and got the gas can from the trunk. He told investigators the next thing he knew there was a fireball and Marshall got back into the car and told him to leave. Investigators found a melted nozzle from the gas can at the scene and the gas can in a dumpster back at the hotel. Gibbs said Marshall was telling people at the hotel his vehicle had been stolen. Investigators say the SUV had damage to it caused by something other than the fire possibly a collision with a pole of some kind. Both men have preliminary hearings on April 6th. Both are charged with arson and criminal damage to property.  Marshall is also charged with obstructing an officer.  The fire happened on March 21st
