Two-Vehicle Accident Closes Hwy. 26

A two-vehicle crash closed down a portion of Hwy. 26 Monday morning (January 3, 2022).

The incident occurred shortly before 6:32 am, with reports of a 2-vehicle accident on STH 26 north of Griffith Rd in the Town of Rosendale. Initial report was that this was a head on crash but as first responders and deputies arrived on scene they found that it was not a head on crash, but rather a rear end crash.

Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office along with Rosendale First Responders, Rosendale Fire Department, and Ripon Ambulance responded to the scene. Also assisting in traffic control was Rosendale Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. STH 26 was closed between CTH C in Winnebago County and Rose-Eld Rd for approximately 1 hour.

Investigation showed that a northbound vehicle was making a left turn into an address on STH 26 when a second northbound vehicle failed to stop and struck the vehicle that was turning from behind.

Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of STH 26. The turning vehicle was operated by a 31-year-old male from West Bend with no passengers.

The lone operator of the striking vehicle, a 22-year-old female from Rosendale, was transported to the hospital. She was also cited for inattentive driving. The male operator of the vehicle that was struck was also transported to the hospital. Both of the people transported were treated for minor injuries.
