Two Water Rescues in Winnebago County

Authorities in Winnebago County responded to two separate calls
for water rescues Saturday. The first call came from Lake Winneconne, where
Town of Winneconne/Poygan Fire Department and Oshkosh Fire Department
Paramedics responded to a report of a capsized boat with two people in the
water. A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit assisted the fire crews
to safely rescue the two adults and bring them to shore. Both were treated and
released. The boat was unable to be removed from the lake due to water
conditions.

In the second call, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office
along with the Oshkosh Fire Department were called to the west shore of Lake
Winnebago near Monkey Island for a report of two kayakers who were in distress.
One of the kayaks had capsized, and a 34 year old man from Oshkosh was in the
water. The other kayaker, a 37 year old woman from Oshkosh was able to call 911
for help. A local resident used his personal boat to rescue the two kayakers
just before sheriff’s deputies arrived with the marine unit. Both people were
evaluated on shore by paramedics and released.
