Unemployment Claims Drop Almost 17%

It may be a small light at the end of the unemployment tunnel, as the Department of Workforce Development released the latest figures for the week ending August 1st

Based on preliminary numbers, applications were down almost 17% compared to the previous week, with just over 19,000 applications filed. According to DWD Secretary Caleb Frostman, the Department is making significant progress in reducing the percentage of weekly claims in process.  Since March 15, there have been over 824,000 unemployment applications filed, and over $3.2 billion in benefits paid out.
