Unemployment Fund Could Dry Up By October

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development warns that the state’s unemployment fund could run dry by October.

As of this week, the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance stood at a little over one-point-eight million dollars. D-W-D says it is processing 300 thousand claims weekly, about three times the number of claims it had to handle during the first year of the 2008 Great Recession.  October was a worst-case estimate, with another projection indicating the fund would be depleted by September of next year.
