University Merger Naming Opportunity

One of the things being worked out with the merger of the UW-Oshkosh, UW-Fond du Lac, and UW-Fox Valley into one university is what to call it. UW-Oshkosh Chancellor Andrew Leavitt says “UW” will have to be part of the name. One of the committees working on the transition is tackling the naming issue. He says, “One of them is called naming and on that naming group we are going to empower a group of people that are from the three campuses including students to come up with options of what is it we should call ourselves.” Leavitt believes they have a unique opportunity to unite all parts of Lake Winnebago with the three campuses and through naming opportunity. He says, “There are very few unique institutions out there that can say they run up and down the entire length of the lake in uniting our friends from the Fox Cities and Fond du Lac with that of Oshkosh and so we have a unique opportunity to do that.” There will be a transitional period, but the merger takes effect on July 1st.
