Update on Macy Street Closure

The City of Fond du Lac is providing an update on the
closure of Macy Street between Forest and First Street, which has been closed
since late March. In a Facebook post Thursday, the city said the street does
remain closed as the property owner of 76 south Macy Street continues to take “corrective
measures” to preserve the building. The building had significant structural
issues that compromised the front wall of the building, and caused a major
hazard for anyone driving or walking below. City officials say they continue to
work with the owner of the building, the contractor and structural engineer to
keep the project moving forward. The city  “undertaken the appropriate and necessary
legal steps if the owner is unable to keep the project moving forward”, and has
“reiterated to the owner the need to return Macy Street to public access”.
