UW Education A Bargain

State Representative Joan Ballweg says tuition for the University of Wisconsin is reasonable compared to other schools in the Midwest. She says UW tuition is in the middle of the lower half in the Big Ten. She says it is $4,000 a year lower than in Minnesota and $7,000 lower than in Illinois. She says tuition in the UW has been frozen for five years and longer at UW Colleges. She says it has actually been frozen for nine years at the UW Colleges. She says it is a very economical way to get into the UW System. As for the Governor’s proposal to cut tuition at the UW Schools by 5 percent in the second year of the state budget, Ballweg says rather than back filling that $35 million she would like to see it go towards financial aid and also include technical colleges and independent and private colleges too. Ballweg is on the Assembly’s Colleges and Universities Committee.
