UW FDL Presents Distinguished Alumni Award To Michael Casper

The University of Wisconsin-Fond du Lac’s 2015 Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented to Michael A. Casper, writer and editor of the Scene newspaper in Fond du Lac, Appleton, Green Bay, Oshkosh and Stevens Point and currently works in radio.

Casper attended UW-Fond du Lac from 1977 to 1979. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in communications from UW-Oshkosh.

His career spans multiple media platforms – writing for newspapers and magazines, and broadcasting on radio and TV.

Having loved speech classes in high school, Casper once contemplated becoming an educator thinking he’d always have a “captive audience.”  But a career-day piqued his interest in radio, and while in college he began his radio career at KFIZ.

A passion since childhood, he also dreamed of doing stand-up comedy. He pursued that path for 10 years, performing as a comedian across the United States.

After returning to the area, he co-wrote a weekly movie review, and penned human interest stories for the Action Advertiser. He was also a sales and technical trainer for Mercury Marine, before migrating back into radio.

He’s also a voice-over actor, on-camera talent, videographer and podcaster.

He will be honored at the UW-Fond du Lac Foundation’s annual donor and scholarship reception this fall.

This is the 12th year the university has presented this award. Past recipients include Brenna Garrison-Bruden (2004); Don Noe (2005); Paul Rosenfeldt (2006); Robert (Bob) Carew (2007); Oscar Kraus (2008); Sandi Roehrig (2009); Mark Stand (2010); Kim Mooney (2011); William (Bill) Lamb (2012); Scott Wittchow (2013); Paul Thelen (2014).
