UW System Names Thompson Interim President

He’s about as Wisconsin as it gets. It seems most everyone knows him.And he’s going to be leading the University System, for at least the next year. Former Governor Tommy Thompson will serve as interim U-W System president starting July 1st. The Board of Regents needs more time to look for a new president after finalist Jim Johnsen recently withdrew his candidacy. Longtime president Ray Cross plans to retire soon. Thompson earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from U-W Madison, and was the longest-serving governor in Wisconsin history.
