UW System Regents Approve Employee Pay Increase

The UW System regents have approved a plan to increase pay
for employees by 3-percent each of the next two fiscal years. The pay plan was
unanimously approved during a meeting in La
Crosse
on Thursday. They also backed an identical plan
for UW-Madison employees.

The proposal calls for full state funding of the
general wage increase, coming after six years of tuition freezes. The state
usually provides about 70-percent of the UW-System pay increase, with the rest
funded through tuition – but officials say pay raises have trailed inflation,
and faculty salaries lag behind their peers at other institutions.

The decision
now needs legislative approval – and would start in July.
