UWO Foundation Asks Federal Judge About Taxpayer Help with Loans

The UW-Oshkosh Foundation is asking a federal judge to decide whether taxpayers should cover $18.5 million dollars in foundation loans and legal fees. The foundation filed for bankruptcy in 2016, when it was unable to make payments on several major building projects. A following lawsuit claimed former Chancellor Richard Wells and former Vice Chancellor Tom Sonnleitner made deals promising lenders to back any defaulted foundation loans. They are also accused of transferring over $11-million dollars in university money to the foundation. They both face felony charges in connection to the case.
