Vehicle Goes Through The Ice One Dead One Critical

The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that an 8-year-old boy who went through the ice of Lake Winnebago Sunday has died. The boy Derek Doro was with his father, 40-year-old Andrew Doro of Sussex, when their jeep went through the ice and sank to the bottom of the Lake Sunday morning. Both were rescued from the cold waters and were taken to hospitals. Andrew Doro died Sunday and Derek later. The accident occurred a couple miles off the Merritt Avenue boat launch at Menominee Park in Oshkosh.

A 40-year-old Sussex man is dead and his 8-year-old son is in critical condition after their jeep went through the ice and sank to the bottom of Lake Winnebago Sunday. Winnebago County Sheriff’s officials say an ATV rider reported seeing the jeep go through the ice off the Merritt Avenue Boat Launch at Menominee Park just before 7 a.m. Oshkosh Fire Department’s Rescue Boat and divers responded to the scene. The two were found and taken to hospitals where the father died of his injuries. The boy is in critical condition.
