Vehicle Pursuit And Crash Tangle Up I-41 Traffic Friday Afternoon

At approximately 1:33 PM, City of Fond du Lac Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Welsh Street for a physical altercation involving a 36-year-old male Oshkosh resident. Prior to officers arrival the suspect verbally threatened to kill a person at that location before leaving in a vehicle.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Johnson Street and Main Street. Upon activation of emergency lights, the vehicle fled westbound on Johnson Street. The suspect vehicle continued to ignore officer’s emergency lights and sirens while still traveling westbound on Johnson Street.

The pursuit then turned north in I-41.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff officers got involved and set out tire deflation devices in the area of County Highway N. The fleeing vehicle hit the device and started losing air in a couple tires.

The chase came to a stop just south of the Winnebago County line and officers reported they were fighting with the suspect and a taser was deployed to bring him under control.

The 36-year-old male was arrested on charges of felony fleeing and eluding, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and operating while impaired. He will be held at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

While this was going on on the north bound side of 41, traffic on the southbound side slowed to watch the ordeal and caused a four vehicle crash because of it.

Two people were injured in this crash. Traffic on both sides were backed up for miles while things got cleaned up.
