If you are successful in your deer hunter, but would rather donate the venison to a local food pantry there are processors who will process that meat for free. Bill Hankee is the DNR Conservation Warden for western Fond du Lac County. He says because of concerns about chronic wasting disease some processors are no longer taking deer. He advises calling a processor first because if they do accept deer they may have some processing requirements. In Fond du Lac County Brandon Meats, Eden Meat Market, and Loehr’s Meat Service are participating processors. The nine-day gun deer hunt kicks off today.
