“Virtual” Tornado Drill Held Thursday At 1:45 PM

Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week continues in Wisconsin, but because of the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on the state, the annual Statewide Tornado Drill this afternoon will be handled differently.

Instead of a mock tornado watch and warning being issued, a “virtual” tornado drill will be held at 1:45 this afternoon.

Fond du Lac County Communications and Emergency Management Director Bobbi Hicken says the hope is people will still use the time to go over their severe weather safety plans. As part of the “virtual” drill, the county will not be sounding the outdoor warning sirens, and no alerts will be sent to weather radios.
