Vision Month Proclamation Presented At FDL City Council Meeting

The Fond du Lac City Council issued a proclamation this week designating August as Children’s Vision and Learning Month in the City. Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan presented the proclamation to Dr. Brian Hammes. Dr. Hammes noted in accepting the proclamation that children’s vision and learning can be tied together. He told the Council a story about giving an exam to a 13-year-old boy who seemed to have perfect vision, but was failing in school. The boy’s father accompanied his son to the exam. Dr. Hammes says he found out through a simple test using a pencil that the boy had double vision. He says the boy was seeing double when he read and didn’t bother telling anybody. He says the boy’s father assumed their vision was the same, but it wasn’t.
