Vote On Chicken Ordinance Change Delayed

The Fond du Lac City Council Wednesday night voted unanimously to delay a vote on whether to amend a City ordinance to allow the raising of chickens. Several City Council members said they simply didn’t have enough information on the issue, among them City Council President Lee Ann Lorrigan who said they were armed with a lot of information when they were asked to allow honey bee keeping in the City. Councilwoman Catherine Block says she has some familiarity with chicken raising having grown up on a farm and says they are not nearly as bad as some people would have you believe. She says cities she knows of where they are allowed haven’t had any major issues. The ordinance will go back before the City Council during their Tuesday, November 24th meeting.
