Waiting On High Courts Redistricting Decision

Municipal and County clerks across Wisconsin are waiting to see how a U.S. Supreme Court decision might impact upcoming elections. The high court is deciding whether there was Gerrymandering when federal and state district lines for elective officers were redrawn following the 2010 Census. Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freiberg says if the court decides lines should be redrawn it will have a big effect on elections next year. For one thing it will affect ballot styles because redrawing of the maps will show changes in representation for all levels of government. Freiberg points out it would not affect county supervisory districts. Those lines are drawn by county officials and are basically non-partisan. She also says we are only a couple years away from a new census and redrawing of the lines again.
