Walleye Weekend Attendance Strong

Official figures will be released today for attendance at Walleye Weekend, but initial estimates indicate a pretty successful festival at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park last weekend. Fond du Lac Festivals’ Executive Director Leanne Doyle says they had about 55,000 people during the first two days. This year Oven Island was dubbed Mercury Island for the weekend. Doyle says the National Walleye Tournament started it all and it is appropriate to have Mercury at the Heart of the festival. She says a Bean Bag Tournament presented by Life Enforcement was one of the newer events that drew a lot of interest. Next year will mark the 40th year for Walleye Weekend. Doyle says they are already planning some special things to commemorate that anniversary.
