Water Damage Closes Lighthouse To The Public

The Lakeside Park Lighthouse and Observation Deck are temporarily closed to the public after regular maintenance revealed water damage to wood members.

The Department of Public Works’ Parks & Forestry Department tasked a structural engineer to inspect the building, prompting the decision to close the lighthouse until a thorough assessment and necessary repair work is completed.

“Safety is our top priority,” said Paul DeVries, Director of the City of Fond du Lac Public Works. “We are actively working to ensure our ability to maintain our city’s beloved lighthouse so that it may be enjoyed by all, safely.”

Assessments are ongoing and DPW continues work in partnership with experts to determine the extent of the issue and what repairs may be necessary to resolve the deficiencies and ensure that the lighthouse can reopen to the public once it is safe to do so.
