Waupun HS Senior Named Presidential Scholar Semifinalist

A senior at Waupun High School has been named a
semifinalist for the 2019 Presidential Scholar Program. Katrina Pokorny is one
of 12 students in Wisconsin to be named a semifinalist for the honor, which is
one of the nation’s highest honors bestowed on a high school graduate. The 12
from Wisconsin are among 621 semifinalists across the nation. The majority of
scholars are selected based on academic achievement, measured by the ACT and
SAT college admissions exams. Another group of students, including Pokorny, are
selected based on their ability and accomplishment in career and technical
education fields. A review committee will select one male and one female
scholar from each state, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and from families of U.S.
citizens living abroad. In addition, up to 15 students are chosen at large, 20
scholars are selected in the arts and 20 more in career & tech ed for a
total of up to 161 Presidential Scholars. Those selected as Presidential Scholars
will travel to Washington D.C. in June to meet with government leaders and
other individuals and tour museums and other landmarks, plus meet other
scholars.
