Waupun Man Charged with Aiding, Harboring a Felon

A 65-year-old Waupun man is facing prison time after
allegedly hiding a woman wanted for reckless homicide at his home. Steven L.
Bierman is charged in Dodge County Court with a felony count of harboring or
aiding a felon. Investigators say Cara Zech, who was wanted on first-degree
reckless homicide charges at the time, was at Bierman’s apartment in Waupun on
February 5th when police arrived at the apartment looking for her. Bierman
would not answer the door for officers, and Zech was ultimately taken into
custody after leaving the residence.

Zech is accused of arranging a drug deal that caused the
death of Steven Compton of Fond du Lac. Compton died of an overdose on heroin
and fentanyl on July 28
th of last year. A criminal complaint says Compton,
along with two others, went to Milwaukee to purchase the drugs from the deal
arranged by Zech. A warrant was issued for her arrest in December of last year,
and Bierman was warned that if he allowed Zech to stay at his apartment, he
could face charges of harboring a felon.

Bierman is set to make his initial appearance in court on
July 15th.
