Waupun Man Found Guilty Of Attacking Woman

After deliberating for about 90 minutes Wednesday a Fond du Lac County jury found a 24-year-old Waupun man guilty of attacking a 22-year-old woman in Waupun last Thanksgiving morning. Juan Antonio Arriaga, a transient worker, was found guilty of attempted kidnapping, felony intimidation of a victim, false imprisonment, battery and disorderly conduct. District Attorney Eric Toney says Waupun Police did some great work. He says an officer saw Arriaga following the victim because there weren’t too many people on the street at 12:30 that morning. The woman had left a bar headed for her boyfriend’s when Arriaga wrapped his arm around her, blocked her vision, and struck her head. He began guiding her toward his residence, which was about a block away. But a police officer saw the victim fall to the ground and yank her purse away from Arriaga. She then got up and ran towards the squad car when she saw it. Arriaga, who doesn’t speak English, later told police he was lonely and had been drinking that evening. A sentencing hearing is being scheduled.
