Waupun PD Kicks Off K9 Fundraising Effort

The Waupun Police Department has begun a fundraising effort for their next K9. Police Chief Dale Heeringa says their current police dog Yako is 8 ½ years old and his handler Trevor Kreitzman will continue to handle him for about another year. He says then another officer will take over the K9 program. Chief Heeringa says a K9 can perform a number of tasks for them including drug detection, tracking criminal suspects, and for finding missing people. He says Officer Ryan Schneider came up with an idea to sell stuffed police dogs to raise money for their next K9. It is equipped with a Waupun Police badge, vest, and little bone on the collar and they are being sold for $15. Only 100 of the stuffed K9s were ordered. Those who are interested in purchasing one should contact Officer Schneider at the Waupun Police Department. The stuffed K9s should arrive within the next two weeks.
