Waupun Police Chief Retiring

After 41 ½ years all with the Waupun Police Department, Dale Heeringa will be retiring. His last day on the job will be on June 8th. He started out as a 22-year-old rookie with the department on March 28th of 1976 as a night shift patrolman. He worked his way up through the department doings stints in firearm and use of force training, shift supervisor, detective, deputy chief, and spent the last 13 ½ years as chief. He says he wouldn’t change a thing. He says the City of Waupun has been good for him and his family. He says he will miss the interaction especially with the staff at the police department. Heeringa says he has no immediate plans upon retirement, but will put in some “Dale Time” and see how things unfold. He believes the City and department will be in good hands and hopes the Police and Fire Commission will look internally for his successor.
