Waupun Police Receive Report of “Mystery Shopper” Scam

Waupun police say they received a report of the “mystery
shopper” scam in the City Tuesday afternoon. The resident told police they received
a call from someone saying they could become a “mystery shopper” by purchasing $2,500
worth of gift cards to Wal Mart and Apple. The caller then said to text the numbers
of the gift cards to them and wait. There is no word on whether the resident is
out any money after the call. Police say if you receive a call like this to
just hang up and report it to local authorities. State Consumer Protection officials
say that it should never cost you money to become a “mystery shopper” and that
it’s never a good idea to wire money to someone you don’t know – especially from
an unsolicited call. Learn more about the “mystery shopper” scam here
