Waupun Wins D3 State Boys Basketball Title

The Waupun Warriors Boys High School Basketball team came away with their first ever state championship in the state tournament this weekend. They beat Appleton Xavier 59 to 58 to win the WIAA Division 3 title Saturday. Waupun Schools Superintendent Tonya Gubin says they took 11 fan buses down Thursday for the first round game against Prairie du Chien and you could feel the excitement of the Warrior fans. It had been 89 years since Waupun’s last trip to state in boys’ basketball. She says that was 1927 and in a picture from that team they featured on the district website the players’ jerseys had the words “Prison City” on them, which she says tells you it was a long time ago.
