West Nile Virus In FDL County

The Fond du Lac County Health Department says a dead crow found in the county last month tested positive for the West Nile virus. The bird was found on July 25th, but the county was just informed this week of the test results. County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says if you are going to be outdoors for an extended amount of time you should take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes that might be carrying the virus. She recommends limiting time outside at dawn and dusk, using repellent, making sure windows and door screens are in good repair. She also recommends disposing of items that can collect standing water where mosquitoes breed. Chlorination of swimming pools, outdoor saunas and hot tubs is also urged. You should also trim tall grass, weeds, and vines.
