WIAA Football Playoff Preview – Level 1 – 10-25-13

Division One

 

#6 Fond du Lac @ #3 Menomonee Falls – Friday – 7pm

The Fond du Lac Cardinals head to Menomonee Falls tonight for their Division One first round playoff game.  The Cardinals (4-5, 4-3) clinched a playoff spot with a 34-19 win over Wisconsin Rapids.  Fondy finished in 4th place in the Valley Football Association South Division.   Menomonee Falls (7-2, 5-2) finished in a three way tie for 2nd in the Greater Metro Conference with Sussex Hamilton and Brookfield Central.  Senior tailback Christian Almonte leads the Falls offense with 1277 rushing yards and 16 TDs.  He was a finalist in the state 100 meter dash last spring.  QB Adam Vechart has thrown for 652 yards and run for 616 yards on the season.  Falls head coach John Baker played for Fondy assistant coach Steve Jorgensen when he was the head coach at Oshkosh North.  The winner of this game will play the winner of #7 Milwaukee Morse Co-op vs. #2 Germantown next weekend.   You’ll hear this game on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ and it streams at kfiz.com.  You can also listen to the game on your iphone or Droid by downloading the Radio Loyalty AP and searching KFIZ.

Division Four

 

#8 Chilton @ #1 Manitowoc Roncalli – Saturday – 1pm

The Chilton Tigers (5-4, 3-4) had a sub .500 record in the Olympian Packerland Large Conference but still earned a playoff bid.  The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 mark and rose as high as #5 in the wissports.net Division 4 poll before dropping their final four games of the season.  Roncali (9-0, 7-0) won the Olympian-Packerland Large. They were ranked #3 in the Wissports.net Division 5 Coaches Poll before getting bumped up to D4 in the post-season.  The Jets beat Chilton 21-7 on October 4th in Manitowoc.  The winner will get either #4 Peshtigo or #5 Little Chute in round 2.

#6 Campbellsport @ #3 Wrightstown – Friday – 7pm

The Campbellsport Cougars (6-3, 4-3) clinched a playoff bid with a 45-20 win at Kiel on the final night of the regular season.  The Cougars had dropped two straight heading into their final game.  C-Sport tied for 3rd in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference with Kewaskum.  Plymouth won the EWC with Two Rivers 2nd.  Wrightstown (7-2. 5-2) was 3rd in the Olympian-Packerland Large behind Roncali and Kewaunee.  Wrightstown won the Division Four State Championship back in 2011.  The winner of this game will play either #7 Denmark or #2 Freedom in round two.

Division Five 

 

Winnebago Lutheran @ Northern Elite – Friday – 7pm
Winnebago Lutheran (5-4, 4-3) must make the 3+ hour drive to Niagara play Northern Elite in their Level 1 playoff game.  Northern Elite is a co-op of Niagara and Goodman-Pembine.  They were 8-1 overall this season and won the Northern Lakes Conference with a 6-0 record.  Their only loss was a 22-18 loss to Peshtigo on October 11th.  The Predators QB Joey Swanson has passed for 1188 yards with 13 TDs and 4 interceptions.  He also ran for 1182 yards and 15 TDs this season.   The winner will play either #2 Kewaunee or #7 Brillion next weekend at Level 2.

Cambridge @ Laconia – Friday – 7pm
Laconia (7-2, 5-2) earned a home game with a #4 seed for Level 1.  Cambridge (7-2, 3-2) finished in a three way tie for 2nd place with Waterloo and Marshall behind New Glarus/Monticello in the Capitol South Conference. .  Running back Josh Owens paces the Cambridge offense with 1184 yards and 15 touchdowns. The winner will play either #1 Lancaster or #8 Waterloo next weekend.

Division Six

 

Pardeeville @ St. Mary’s Springs – Friday – 7pm on K107.1-FM

#1 ranked St. Mary’s Springs (9-0, 7-0) opens up a run at a third straight state championship by hosting Pardeeville (4-5, 3-3)  on Friday night at Fruth Field.  Pardeeville was 4th in the Trailways Large this season and feature Wisconsin’s 2nd leading rusher.  Kyle Becker has run for 1903 yards and 21 touchdowns.  St. Mary’s Springs’ Ike Floyd is the states’ 3rd leading rusher with 1831 yards and a state best 31 touchdowns. You can hear this game on K107.1-FM and streaming at k107.com The winner gets either #6 Manitowoc Lutheran or #4 Deerfield next weekend.
