WIAA Wrestling Sectionals – 2/6/2021

WIAA Individual Wrestling Sectionals: 

Division 1 Sectional – at Hartford HS: 

Fond du Lac wrestlers Isaac Ortegon (152 pounds) and Joe Schmitz (285 pounds) competed for the Cardinals at the sectional, but fell short of qualifying for state. Ortegon lost to Titus Hammen in the 3rd place match at 152, while Schmitz placed 6th at 285 pounds. 

Division 2 Sectional – at Kiel HS: 

Campbellsport: 

The Cougars had two wrestlers advance to the State Individual Wrestling Tournament out of the sectional. Drake Mullenbach at 113 pounds and and Ostin Blanchard at 120 pounds both placed second at their respective weight classes, with Mullenbach winning by no contest in the 2nd place match and Blanchard winning by a fall in 2:42 over his opponent in the 2nd place match at 120. 

JJ Ksioszk placed 5th at 132 pounds, Sam Koth placed 6th at 138 pounds and Joseph Volz placed 3rd at 220 pounds to round out the sectional for the Cougars

Chilton/Hilbert: 

Two wrestlers from Chilton/Hilbert advanced to the State Individual Wrestling Tournament out of the sectional. Hunter Heller at 106 pounds and Reed Breckheimer at 195 pounds both took second place at their respective weight classes to advance to state. Heller won by a fall in the 2nd place match at 106, while Breckheimer won by a 9-2 decision in the 2nd place match at 195. 

Brandon Heimann placed third at 138 pounds, with Phoenix Fortune (220 pounds) and Logan See (285 pounds) each placing 5th for Chilton/Hilbert

Kewaskum: 

The Indians will send one wrestler to State after Braeden Scoles won the Sectional Championship at 160 pounds to punch his ticket to state. Scoles won over Trevor Roecker of Waupun in the Championship Match by a tech fall to take the title at 160. 

Kiel: 

The Raiders sent eight wrestlers to their home sectional, and five of them will be heading to State after Saturday’s sectional competition. 

Kiel saw Eyan Dessellier (120 pounds), Andrew Schad (126 pounds), Joah Lund (132 pounds) and Ezekiel Sippel (138 pounds) win Sectional Championships to advance to state. Isaac Vandermeer placed 2nd at 182 pounds to also advance to state for Kiel. 

The Raiders scored 149 team points to win the Team Sectional and advance to the Division Two Team State Tournament. 

Laconia: 

The Spartans will send one wrestler to state, with Langdon Everson taking second place at 138 pounds to advance to state. Everson won the 2nd place match by an 8-6 decision over Brandon Heimann from Chilton/Hilbert. 

Lomira: 

The Lions will send two wrestlers to state, with Adam Sauer (152 pounds) and Abe Helsell (195 pounds) winning the Sectional Championship at their respective weight classes. Sauer won by a fall in 3:12 over Grafton’s Cameron Jacobs to win his weight class, while Helsell earned a pin in 1:01 in his first place match over Kannon Muckerheide of Kewaskum. 

North Fond du Lac/St. Mary’s Springs: 

The Oriole/Ledger team failed to advance any wrestlers to state, after their lone representative Evan Kelnhofer placed 5th at 106 pounds. 

New Holstein: 

The Huskies’ lone representative at Sectionals was able to punch his ticket to state, as Mike Volz won the Sectional Championship at 182 pounds. Volz won the championship over Isaac Vandermeer of Kiel by a fall in 2:31

Ripon: 

The Tigers advanced one wrestler to state, as Aaron Socha took second place at 220 pounds. Socha won by a fall in 3:00 over Joseph Volz from Campbellsport to claim second place at 220. 

St. Lawrence Seminary: 

The Hilltoppers’ lone wrestler at sectionals, Joseph Hall, placed fourth at 160 pounds and failed to advance out of sectionals. 

Waupun: 

The Warriors did not advance any of their wrestlers out of sectionals. Easton Hull (126 pounds) and Trevor Roecker (160 pounds) came the closest – finishing third place at their respective weight classes. 

Division 3 Sectional – at Dodgeland HS: 

Oakfield: 

The Oaks failed to advance either of their two wrestlers to state, with Alex Wilson at 138 pounds placing 6th to highlight the sectional competition for Oakfield. 

Princeton/Green Lake: 

P/GL failed to advance any wrestlers to state, with Hunter Lambert (113 pounds) and Alexander Douglas (220 pounds) each placing third at their respective weight class to highlight the tournament. 

Winnebago Lutheran: 

Josh Roloff at 152 pounds was the Vikings’ lone wrestler at sectionals. Roloff placed 6th at his weight class and failed to advance to state.
