Woman Dies in I-41 Crash in Winnebago County

A woman from Neenah was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in on Interstate 41 in the Fox Valley on Friday morning.

A press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the crash on the southbound interstate, just north of the Country II/Winchester Road exit on the north side of Neenah around 6:47 Friday morning.

Investigators say a 50-year-old Appleton man was driving south on the interstate when he made a lane change, attempting to cross multiple lanes of traffic to exit the highway.

While making the lane change, the car hit another vehicle being driven south by a 55-year-old woman from Neenah. The woman’s car spun out of control, hitting the outside right wall, and then went back into the lanes of traffic, where it was hit by a southbound semi-truck, driven by a 38-year-old man from Seymour.

The woman from Neenah died at the scene, while the two other drivers were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office says the other involved drivers are cooperating fully with that investigation.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed for over five hours for investigation into the crash and cleanup efforts.
