Woman Suffers Minor Injuries in Lake Winnebago Snowmobile Crash

A 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries after being thrown from a snowmobile on Lake Winnebago Sunday afternoon.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Town of Calumet Fire Department and First Responders and Mount Calvary Ambulance responded to the scene on the east side of the lake around 4:30 pm.

A person had called 9-1-1 to report the crash – which happened around 50 yards from shore off of Sylvan Bay Road in the Town of Calumet.

A news release says a 19-year-old man from Fond du Lac was driving a snowmobile on the ice, with a 20-year-old female passenger from Hales Corners as his passenger. Investigators found that the snowmobile was heading south when it hit an ice shove, resulting in both people being thrown from the machine.

The woman was taken to St. Agnes Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The man was not injured. Officials say both were wearing helmets and protective clothing.

Weather conditions are believed to be a factor in the crash. Speed and alcohol were not factors, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Also assisting at the scene were City of Fond du Lac Paramedics.
