Work to Bring Meijer Store to FDL Continues to Progress

The owners of the Forest Mall along with City of Fond du
Lac leaders continue to work with Meijer to bring a store to the mall property
on West Johnson Street. City Manager Joe Moore says Meijer is currently working
on agreements with other businesses on the property before moving forward. “They
have to make sure that everybody on Johnson Street there in front of the mall,
the restaurants and the retailers and such, all have their concerns addressed,”
Moore said. “All of those tenants out there, they have contracts that stipulate
that people won’t create barriers to folks getting in their property or out of
their property to come eat there or shop there.” Moore says that despite how
long it’s seemingly taken to come to an agreement with Meijer, things continue
to trend in a positive direction towards getting a deal done. He says they hope
to have an announcement of any potential deal with the retailer by sometime
this fall.

Moore also stated that the businesses along both sides of
Johnson Street near the mall property continue to do very well, and should
continue to see lots of traffic if and when Meijer opens in the area. 11:11
Burgers & Beignets recently opened a second location in the old Pizza Hut
on the corner of Johnson Street and Peters Avenue, and Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen
is also working on opening a location in the old LoanMax building near Pick N
Save. The Popeye’s location is expected to open in October.
