Worker Shortage

State Senator Dan Feyen says while it is good to have a state unemployment level of 3.4 percent; employers are having a hard time filling jobs. Feyen recently visited state job centers in Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. He says he asked officials with those offices how many jobs were available in Fond du Lac and Winnebago counties. He says the total was 2,000. He says he doesn’t believe there are that many people available who need jobs in the two counties. Feyen says we may need to recruit people from other states to fill some of our openings, but also to find a way to employ the students attending our colleges and tech schools after they are done with school. Feyen says research shows students who complete an internship during their educational career are more likely to work in the communities where they learned after school.
