WPS Seeing Rise In Payment App Scams

Wisconsin Public Service is reporting an uptick in scammer activity this week- Spokesperson Matt Cullen says they are using some of the tried and true tactics such as demanding immediate payments and threatening to shut off services quickly, but they’re also trying some new things.

“Asking customers to pay their bills with a digital payment app. We want our customers to know that we do not accept this payment option and we also never require our customers to pay with a specific method.”

Those apps have included Paypal, Venmo, and Google Pay. Cullen says if you one of these pushy phone calls, to simply hang up, and call W P S if you’re worried about your bill.
