Wreath Home Fire Safety Campaign Begins

Two house fires in Fond du Lac are the first in a few months as the Fire and Rescue Department kick off their annual wreath campaign. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says it’s the season when there are more heating sources, decorations and candles that can start fires. Christmas wreathes hung outside each fire station in the City use red and white bulbs to signify whether there has been a fire or how many. It’s called “Keep the Wreathes Red.” Chief O’Leary says red lights are replaced with white bulbs for each fire. He says that’s only done if the fire is started by decorations, candles or something connected with the Christmas holiday. The Red Wreath effort began Thanksgiving Day and runs through New Year’s Day.
