Young In Custody

Update(4:20 a.m.8/7/13):The veteran Waupun Police officer who was the subject of manhunt in northwestern Wisconsin was taken into custody in Burnett County shortly after five Tuesday afternoon. A car 43-year-old Bradley Young stole in Barron County was found near a home by Lake McKenzie. Barron County Sheriff’s officials say they were notified by the state’s Division of Criminal Investigation that the car had been located. It was found about a mile and a half away from the home Young was at. Authorities say Young called 911 and gave himself up when he realized the area was being searched and his capture was inevitable. Young spent the night in the Burnett County Jail on a burglary charge. Officials say he didn’t know the owners of the home he broke into. They were not at home when he entered it. Young was wanted after a burglary and pickup truck theft in Green Lake County Monday. A high speed chase in Barron County ended that night when he crashed the truck and ran into some woods. Yesterday he stole a car to get out of that County, which eventually led to his capture in Burnett County.

UPDATE: At 5:10pm Bradley Young wanted in connection with several burglaries in Green Lake CO and a high speed chase and stolen vehicle in Barron County was taken into custody in Burnett Co without incident with the help of the Washburn, Barron, Burnett and Douglas Co Swat teams along with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol, DCI and WI DNR. He is currently being held in Burnett Co jail on local charges of Burglary.

UPDATE: Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say the incident that sparked a manhunt for a Waupun Police Officer involved a break-in at a Green Lake restaurant. An alarm system early Monday morning alerted owners of Walkers Kollerville Restaurant and they called the Sheriff’s Office. A deputy spotted 43-year-old Brad Young outside the restaurant running into a cornfield. He was dressed all in camouflage. After daylight his vehicle was found in a field entrance and a search warrant was obtained to search it. A separate search warrant was obtained for Young’s home in Brandon. Evidence was found in the vehicle. Monday afternoon at 2:55 p.m. a Green Lake resident living about two miles northwest of the burglary reported his 1985 Toyota extended cab truck stolen. It was later located in Barron County and a high speed chase ended with Young crashing the truck. He fled into a wooded area which was the subject of a search Monday night.

A Waupun police officer is the subject of an intense search in the northwestern part of the state. Brad Young is considered armed and dangerous. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says the 43-year-pld is wanted for burglary and stealing a pickup truck in Green Lake County. Young led officers in Barron County on a high-speed chase before taking off on foot in a wooded area. Following that SWAT teams and other law enforcement agencies were looking for him between Rice Lake and Cumberland. According to the Barron County Sheriff’s Department they were still looking for him early this morning
